Doomed to Write: Cold Turkey Writer clone for Doom, i3, org-roam

Script: d2w.sh

If it wasn’t clear from the gaps in site updates, I have a tough time putting words to the page. It’s not that I don’t have a twelve million dollar typewriter, it’s just perfectionism and shame. But the wonderfully shameless writers over at Substack have a solution for conquering the blank page: a software called Cold Turkey Writer. This program locks your computer until you type a certain number of words. Something is better than nothing, and I’ll write something if it gets between me and screens.

However, I don’t use Windows or MacOS for writing, and dark mode is paywalled.

So, I present Doomed to Write, which uses Doom emacs and i3 to create a org-roam-dailies-capture-today that won’t go away until you’ve written 250 words.

There are probably bugs, this was created by freezing the warts off of LLM output. Also it’s not too difficult to circumvent if you’re a member of the vanishingly small target audience, but it lowers the bar for daily writing discipline just enough that it might work for you. It’s worked for me. Two days in a row!
